In 2010 a group of BT Apprentices and Graduates completed three projects in Africa:
1 – Continued funding of a feeding programme set up in the Kibera slums in Nairobi (Kenya) for 150 children affected by AIDs or HIV.
2 – Funding and construction of Teacher accommodation at a school built in a remote Maasai community (in Tanzania) by a previous Challenge Worldwide group. With the Accommodation in place additional teaching staff could be brought in.
3 – Provision of solar panels to the school to provide electricity to the community for the first time. This allowed classes to be run at night for the adults, and also facilitated creation of a micro-economy to support the school by supplying use of electrical outlets for a small fee.
The group were also given the opportunity to climb Mount Meru, which stands at an impressive 4,566 meters.
